Pipoca
SYNOPSIS
Pipoca (popcorn) is a dance performance and a continuation of the research developed by Brazilian visual artist and choreographer Marcio Cunha.
The performance Pipoca evokes three aspects that intersect in a scenic crossroads: the artist’s childhood, Omolú—the Candomblé entity—and the capoeira master known as Pipoca, his father, from the Grupo Capoeira da Senzala.
Through a scenic ritual, Pipoca evokes the crossing of memories, identity, and spirituality within a terreiro of danced ideas.
Pipoca is an ebó of healing and gratitude, connected to the artist’s history and to the ancestry carried within his playful, dancing body.
Through rituals from capoeira rodas and Brazilian popular dances, the performer’s body expands into the manifested environment, intertwining different languages and creating a hybrid body.
Pipoca is a rite of passage, healing, and transformation—expelling the cycle of the pandemic and opening new paths for communication, research, and creation.
