“Marcio Cunha was eighteen years old when I first auditioned dancers at Studio Casa de Pedra. I immediately connected with him as soon as I saw him move.
He was already showing himself to be highly proactive, vibrant, and restless. He participated in two Company productions as a dancer-creator (Presenças no Tempo and Sonoridades), always expressive, energetic, and with a strong stage presence. We shared many joyful and meaningful experiences during the early years of building my Company.
Over the years, he became a teacher, educator, choreographer, painter, sculptor, and a competent cultural entrepreneur. Today, he is also the father of a beautiful boy named Francisco.
Marcio is talented, curious, and persevering. He has already brought many creations into the world and will continue to explore this vast creative universe. He is the director of Calu, the newest dance space in Lumiar, a place that is already shining and promoting art and culture.
Marcio has a thirst for life and for sharing the world with great integrity and generosity.
I deeply admire your journey.
All my love to you, Marcio.”
Esther Weitzman - Choreographer

“I have been following Márcio for almost ten years, witnessing his creative process closely. His concerns, anxieties, fears, vulnerabilities, strengths, doubts transforming into certainties, certainties transforming into doubts... A mind in constant movement, always deeply connected to his inner self and guided by intuition. It has always been this way.
His ability to listen is beautiful. Then he conceptualizes, rationalizes, and organizes. But first, he throws himself into the abyss. Into the empty room. He undresses himself. He plays. He cries and laughs. He screams. He does. Again and again and again.
He feels. He feels deeply.
And from this process, the work is born—exactly as his heart envisioned it, in a future he had not yet reached.”
Juliana Nogueira - Dancer
“Frida-me was a wonderful gift that I could experience even when I am ninety years old! (laughs) Marcinho is a partner I have gained forever. Being able to experience the research developed by the Company was the most beautiful way to return to the stage.
There was such a deep desire to be there, to be together on stage, as if we had always shared that space. Affinities that cannot be explained.
But I have my suspicions about why they exist—why this encounter became possible and why I so deeply wish to return to the stage with my ‘cumpade.’
Perhaps it is because of the undeniable passion with which he lives art, his dedication and persistence in pursuing his purposes, the childlike spirit I see in his eyes and dreams, and the love that is present in everything—from his thoughts to his actions.
Or simply because, together on stage, it feels as if every night we are going to die, be reborn, and then laugh loudly and endlessly.
And so, here I am today, in the audience of CÉU DE BASQUIAT, with my heart on stage, already eager to celebrate and to hear him tell me who we are going to ‘draw’ next time!”
Ana Paula Bouzas - Actress and Dancer

“What can we say when speaking directly from one artist to another? Sharing dreams along this arduous and challenging path we walk, in exchange for a little piece of what we are seeking?
I say to Márcio and his Company: thank you. Thank you for the generosity of allowing us to experience music, scenery, and art together, combining different languages, unique moments of learning, and the faith that our humanity can—and must—continue to be cultivated.
Thank you for the passion for art that overflows beyond the limits of the proscenium. Thank you for the partnership and trust in a world of crooked masks.
The stage is where we play.
May many, many more years and works come.”
Leonardo Miranda - Multimedia Artist
“Márcio is a doer. It is what he knows best.
A doer is someone who never stands still. He is someone who understands movement—the movement of the atom, the galaxy in the Universe, the expansion of the Universe itself.
One never forgets the blood that runs through the veins, the cells that flow within the blood, the infinitely microscopic life that dances inside the body-universe.
It seems that people like Márcio do not simply walk through the world: they dance with the flow of things. They surf on the surface of dreams.
What he loves most is inturism.
Márcio is a guide of inturism. He invites, welcomes, embraces, and takes people to places within themselves that they have never visited: the unknown, loneliness, childhood, fear, love.
But we rarely enter these places with our eyes closed.
Closed eyes?
It is because poets, like blind people, can see in the dark.
And the greatest work of a guide is the creation of poets. To explore these places, one must close one’s eyes (trust the guide), see through the hands (a poet’s exercise), and allow oneself to be transformed.
But what is the purpose of inturism today? Is it worth anything?
In fact, it is useless.
And nothingness is extremely important.
Losing the ability to experience nothingness is a form of impoverishment.
So close your eyes.
It is a one-way journey.”
Tayio Jean Omura - Performing Artist

“Márcio Cunha is a captivating artist. He studies, lives, and dedicates himself completely to every artistic proposal he develops. He is one of those artists who take you out of your comfort zone, who move not only the body but also thought.
I have followed Márcio Cunha’s work since its beginning. He is the friend and partner that the Universe gave me as a gift.
Being able to participate directly or indirectly in his creative processes is always a privilege.
Watching this work grow and become stronger is an immense pleasure.
Throughout all these years of research, Márcio Cunha has created authentic, sensitive, and beautiful works.”
Renata Reinheimer - Dancer
“Márcio Cunha is an artist endowed with immense creativity and talent, reflected in works filled with sensitivity and boldness.
Plural in his artistic expressions, Márcio immerses himself in dance, theater, visual arts, and sculpture, engaging audiences through work that is deeply human.
Márcio Cunha takes a visceral dive into the tragedies of the modern world with depth and emotion, offering us—through art itself—an experience of indescribable sensations.”
Guto Neto - Filmmaker

“More than a professional relationship, I have a bond of affection with Marcio Cunha Contemporary Dance, because it was the first (and only) company that I ever asked to produce. Usually, companies look for producers, but in this case, I was the one who sought out the company. I believe it was destiny, because when I asked Marcio if he had someone producing his work, he told me he had just become ‘an orphan,’ as his producer had moved to Portugal.
That was in May 2017, and since then we have shared six years of many projects, achievements, and collaborations. Six years that feel like twenty, because we have built such a strong professional and personal bond that it feels as though I have been part of the company since its foundation (Marcio insists that I have! hahaha).
I can only thank the universe for conspiring in our favor. May we have another 10, 15, 20, 30 years of partnership ahead!”
Cacau Gondomar - Producer
“Do you know that artist who is connected 24 hours a day to the eternal source of creation? Well, that is Márcio Cunha.
I have known this enlightened person since I was 20 years old, long before he established himself with such strength on social media.
Márcio has always had this remarkable ability, in person, to be approachable, accessible, to work with diverse people, unusual contexts, urgent themes, and large groups. He is a trainer, a judge, and a player of movements. He proposes and provokes.
And I have the pleasure of playing on his team.
Without ever losing depth or sensitivity, he continues forward with strength and discipline—qualities with which I deeply identify.
I have a profound passion for being by his side as a collaborating dancer in his works. With each new proposal, our eyes light up, and I can finally surrender myself once again, body and soul, to the process of beginning anew.
A drop by drop of an infinity yet to exist.”
Carla Stank - Dancer
